BI Sees New Loan Disbursement to Increase in Q1 2021

Bank Indonesia (BI) survey predicts that new loan disbursement will increase in the first quarter of this year.

The increase in new loan disbursements is indicated by the weighted net balance (SBT) of new loan disbursements in the first quarter of 2021 of 49.4 percent compared with 25.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2020.

"New loan disbursement in the first quarter of this year was driven by loan for working capital, followed by investment loan and consumption loan," said Head of the Communication Department of Bank Indonesia, Erwin Haryono, in Jakarta, Tuesday (19/1).

Meanwhile, loan growth in the fourth quarter of 2020 is predicted to be limited. The growth influences this in investment loans.

The standard of lending in the first quarter of 2021 is estimated not to be as strict as the previous period. This is indicated by the Lending Standard Index (ILS) of 0.4 percent, lower than 3.2 percent in the previous quarter.

"Aspects of disbursement policy that are not predicted to be as tight as the previous quarter include the loan ceiling and loan period," said Erwin.

Furthermore, this Bank Indonesia survey results indicate that respondents remain optimistic about loan growth for the whole of 2021.

"Respondents estimate that loan growth in 2021 will be 7.3 percent YoY. This optimism is supported, among others, by monetary and economic conditions, as well as the relatively manageable risk of lending," Erwin said.
